Everyone says to tackle the thesis one step at a time, but I think the time has come to look the bigger picture right in the face. I think we need longterm goals. So in the interests of motivating all of you, I've selflessly thrown myself to the wolves and arranged my holidays to Prague for the end of August. So while there is agony aplenty ahead, I have a longterm goal by which time I intend to (perhaps ridiculously) have the bulk of my thesis written! Ta-dah! It's really that easy.
Apparently the key to happiness is having something to look forward to, so perhaps the key to hap-phd-ness is a fixed date in time by which we will be done. So I urge you to make that date with destiny, book that sun holiday...

or perhaps that ninja training camp ...

and then (in the words of John) we can all leave and be happy :-)

Dr Almost time for Tea! I LOVE it! What a super post! I DO feel more motivated now... perhaps I too should make a more concrete deadline, with some fun attached to look forward to, and keep my spirits up!
And since I have virtually no money, I can only book a cheap trip, so, if things don't go to plan, not too much money wasted. Hmmm... is that already defeating the purpose of the goal, if I have a back-up plan about not making it already attached in my head?
Ninja-Pony Training camp Gary? Whaddya think?
Great post Suzanne- and thanks! Off to work with new found motivation,
Dr Almost there
I have just booked into that ninja training camp for Sep. 1. That's the exact day I started 4 long years ago. The good thing is that if I don't show up on the first day the ninjas will come and find me (in the middle of the night) and drag me there, meaning I HAVE to be finished by then or risk a broken arm. I love ninjas.
